How to mount a wall dryer

Using dryer brackets to create space and minimalism

Clothes dryers are an essential component of many households, allowing families to stay on top of the weekly wash without waiting for the weather. Dryer wall brackets allow you to mount your dryer on vacant walls, freeing up precious space in your laundry.

If you’re ready to mount a clothes dryer on your wall, Carinya has the perfect product for you. Our clothes dryer brackets will ensure that your dryer is safely mounted off the ground and out of the way.

How do you mount a wall dryer?

Mounting a clothes dryer on a wall is a fairly straightforward process. First, there are a few things you need to consider before you get started.

  • Will the dryer be mounted in a safe and secure place? Before you mount, you should ensure that children and pets will be kept safe around the dryer.
  • Is there a power outlet within 1 metre of this position? This will prevent any connectivity issues when the dryer is in use.
  • Do you have a top loader washing machine? If you do, and it lies beneath the dryer, you’ll need to leave enough room for the lid to open.
  • Do you own a condenser dryer? As a rule of thumb, only vented dryers can be wall-mounted. Condenser dryers are too heavy for brackets and need to remain on the floor.
  •  Does your dryer need to be mounted upside down? If so, check with your manufacturer before you start. Your dryer may be designed in such a way that it makes upside-down mounting unsafe.

Mounting a dryer: step by step

After you’ve answered the above questions, you’ll be ready to mount your dryer to the wall. Here’s everything you need to get the job done.

*Important note: check the manufacturer’s guidelines to see if your dryer can actually be mounted safely.

Step 1: Choose your mounting position

Your dryer should be mounted at a minimum distance of 250mm to the ceiling, and 1320mm distance to the floor. If you are mounting your dryer upside down, you may need to invert the control buttons using a screwdriver. Your dryer’s instruction book should have some pointers.

Step 2: Mark the position

Once you’re happy with the position of the dryer, mark the holes on your chosen bracket mounting system. If mounting to brick or concrete, use masonry screws to drill straight into the surface.

If mounting on a timber wall, use the stud finder to identify strong positions to which you can fasten the fixing. All dryers must be fixed to a timber stud.

Step 3: Fasten the bracket

Now that you’re in position, you can fasten the bracket to the wall. Ensure that the bracket is fastened tightly at both ends. Also, check that the bracket doesn’t come away from the wall when you put pressure on it. Use the level to make sure it has been fixed correctly.

Step 4: Fix spacers

Your mounting kit will come with a set of spacer legs. These can be screwed into the back of the dryer. They will space the dryer away from the wall ensuring that it is kept level and balanced.

Step 5: Mount dryer

Using the help of your friend, you can now safely mount your dryer on the wall. Plug it in first, and using proper lifting techniques, lift it into place. Use the level to make sure that everything is stable and safe.

Your newly mounted dryer is now ready for immediate use. Give it a spin to make sure everything is working correctly, including the controls, if you inverted them.

Step 1: Fitting the dyer brackets

When you place the mounting brackets onto the back of the dryer, you may notice only one screw hole. In this case, you till need to use the self-tapping screws to pierce the back panel. Turn the self-tapping screws until they tighten. Once you’ve complete this step, fit the spacers on to the back of the dryer.

Step 2: Measure the dryer

Write down the measurements of the top of the dryer to the top of the dryer brackets, and the distance between the dryer brackets.

Step 3: Choose a mounting position

Your dryer should be mounted 250mm from the ceiling, and 1320mm from the floor. If you are mounting a top-loading machine, you’ll need to leave enough space for the lid to open.

Step 4: Fix wall brackets

Fix the wall brackets to the wall using the wood screws provided. If you can’t screw directly into a stud, you’ll need to fit a 75x20mm timber batten and attach the brackets to the batten.

Step 5: Fitting the dyer to the wall brackets

Together with another person, you’ll need to lift the dryer into place — making sure the dryer brackets fit into the wall bracket according to the diagram provided in your installation kit.
